Marcus Rashford handed Man Utd lifeline by Ruben Amorim with Newcastle recall

Marcus Rashford has been recalled to the Manchester United squad for tonight’s visit of Newcastle.

The England forward has missed his team’s last four games after being ostracised by manager Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese coach decided to axe Rashford because of his poor attitude in training.

The move coincided with Rashford, 27, revealing in an interview that he wanted to quite United to seek a new challenge. Amorim was furious with Rashford for revealing his wishes without speaking to him first.

And he left him out of the United squad for games against Manchester City, Tottenham, Bournemouth and Wolves. But Amorim has bought him in from the cold, having decided Rashford deserves to be involved again.

Yet Rashford has to settle for a place on the bench, as United look to avoid suffering their third straight home league defeat for the first time since 1979. Rashford, who is expected to leave United in next month’s transfer window, has scored just seven goals in 24 appearances this season.

Rashford was spotted by fans at Old Trafford kitted out in his United gear ahead of the Premier League clash, with the Red Devils currently slumped 14th in the table. Amorim’s side are just eight points clear of the relegation zone, but do have a game in hand over 18th placed Leicester City.

Speaking earlier this month, Rashford said: “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.”
