New Year Honours List 2025 in full – from Gareth Southgate to Myleene Klass and Sadiq Khan

Former England boss Gareth Southgate and TV star Stephen Fry are among the big names to pick up gongs in the New Year’s Honours list.

The new Sirs are joined by London Mayor Sadiq Khan and rugby legend Gerald Davies, while Labour MP Emily Thornberry becomes a Dame. There were also honours for actors Sarah Lancashire, Anne Reid, Anne-Marie Duff, Kevin Whately and Dr Who star Tom Baker.

Yet again David Beckham was snubbed for a knighthood. Musician and TV host Myleene Klass gets an MBE for her charity work and raising women’s health and miscarriage awareness. Fellow presenters Alan Titchmarsh and Steve Lamacq were also included on the list.

Olympic gold winner Keely Hodgkinson is among a host of GB athletes to receive top awards in the New Years Honours list. The 22-year-old, who was named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year earlier this month, ends an extraordinary year with an MBE for services to athletics.

There was also an OBE for former Everton, Manchester United and West Ham boss David Moyes, and an MBE for Liverpool legend Alan Hansen. Helen Glover, one of the country’s greatest-ever rowers with more than 20 gold medals to her name, is honoured with an OBE in the New Years Honours list.

Former F1 driver and sports presenter Martin Brundle was also named. Meanwhile nine-time Paralympic champion Hannah Cockcroft has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), and Olympic 800 metre gold medallist Keely Hodgkinson was given an MBE.

Sir Gareth Southgate was rewarded for his heroics as England manager, which saw the Three Lions reach two finals including this year’s European Championship showdown with Spain.

Gerald Davies, former Wales and British and Irish Lions wing, was knighted for services to his sport and for voluntary and charitable service in Wales. Olympic gold winner Keely Hodgkinson picked up an OBE.

Cyclist Tom Pidcock and swimmer Duncan Scott are both upgraded to become Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) along with Helen Glover, who came out of retirement to land a rowing silver medal in the women’s four.

Also becoming MBEs are rowing champions Lola Anderson, Georgie Brayshaw, Emily Craig, Imogen Grant, Lauren Henry and Hannah Scott, cyclists Sophie Capewell, Emma Finucane and Katy Marchant, trampoline gold medallist Bryony Page and kite-surfing winner Ellie Aldridge.

Former Coronation Street star Sarah Lancashire is among TV legends recognised in the New Years Honours List. The Bafta-winning actress, 60, said it was an “unexpected delight”.

Anne Reid – another star from the cobbles – is also recognised with a CBE. Other CBE recipients include actress Carey Mulligan and TV presenter Alan Titchmarsh, who said telling his wife and daughters about the honour was a “teary moment”.

Inspector Morse and Lewis actor Kevin Whately paid tribute to charity workers as he was made an OBE while Doctor Who star Tom Baker, 90, has been made an MBE. Actor Eddie Marsan, who has starred in films including Happy-Go-Lucky, Sherlock Holmes, and Hancock is also awarded an OBE.

Bafta-winning actress Anne-Marie Duff said she felt “incredibly lucky and privileged” to do a job she loves as she was made an OBE. Radio presenter and DJ Steve Lamacq also said his MBE award came as an “incredible shock”.

Sadiq Khan said he was truly humbled to be awarded a knighthood after securing a historic third term as Mayor of London. Sir Sadiq has been praised for rolling out free school meals for kids in the capital’s primary schools – a scheme that has now been made permanent.

Former Shadow Attorney General Emily Thornberry, the MP for Islington South since 2005, has also been made a dame. She said: “I think of my grandmothers, neither of whom were even allowed to work as married women, and think how utterly delighted they’d be to see this.”

Patricia Hewitt, a former Health Secretary under Tony Blair and is the chairwoman of NHS Norfolk and Waveney, is awarded a damehood for services to healthcare. Former Conservative Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, also received a knighthood alongside the ex-Tory schools minister Nick Gibb.

And ex-MP Ranil Jayawardena, who served as a Cabinet minister during Liz Truss’s brief 49-day stint in No10, was handed a knighthood.
