Wayne Rooney hits out at ‘annoying’ claims he let thriller lady into his flat

Wayne Rooney has taken to Instagram to hit out at claims he let a “mystery woman” into his flat after a video went viral on social media.

The Manchester United and England legend is now managing Championship side Plymouth Argyle, meaning he is living down in Devon, away from his wife Coleen and children. MailOnline, the website of the Daily Mail, reported Rooney had been filmed “letting a mystery woman into his flat”.

But the former striker, 39, has now responded to reports surrounding the clip, which shows him wearing a baseball cap and tracksuit, apparently opening the door to his apartment, while accompanied by a woman.

He wrote on Instagram: “I am aware of a video circulating online. The video shows a man and woman looking around my apartment. The couple kindly gave me a lift home and were in there at the same time as my son who was visiting.

“Footage is from last summer. It is annoying that at least one online newspaper has chosen to edit the footage to make it appear as though a woman entered the apartment on her own. That is simply not true.”

The contentious video – now hitting more than two million views – shows Rooney opening the door to his flat for a female companion before being spotted inside his lavish loft-style apartment alongside an illuminated TV screen, reports the Mirror. Other images posted online show him drinking in a pub flanked by two women and singing karaoke.

While coaching Argyle away from home, Rooney has settled into a sizable flat in Plymouth, whilst Coleen and their children stay put in the family residence. Since taking on the role at Argyle back in May, he’s had a tough run in the South West, only bagging five victories out of 25 games.

With Plymouth languishing at the base of the Championship table, and following a recent 2-0 defeat against Oxford, the pressure is mounting, with some voices clamouring for Rooney’s dismissal.

Rooney has admitted to considering all options. Speaking on Sunday, the football legend said: “I think you have to look at every possible outcome. I think that’s normal with the results we are going through,” when quizzed about potentially stepping down.

“You have to feel you can turn it around, have you got the players to turn it around. Can I turn it around? Can the coaches turn it around? That’s all stuff we really have to look at.”
