Travel Supermarket has done the legwork, comparing the cost of a bottle of beer at beach bars in over 20 popular holiday spots to find the cheapest.
Corfu, Greece, and Algarve, Portugal, both landed near the bottom of the pile, slapping tourists with a hefty £4.30 price tag (only Dubai was pricier at a whopping £9.62), reports the Express.
Even the beloved Canary Islands seemed a bit steep, with a beer setting you back £3.01 in Gran Canaria, £2.71 in Fuerteventura, and £2.58 in both Lanzarote and Tenerife.
But Malta took the crown as the cheapest EU country – charging holidaymakers a mere £2.15 for a pint on the beach.
Just a three-hour hop from the UK, Malta is brimming with rich history – home to the 5000 year old site of Ħagar Qim and the fortified city of Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1980.
The island is not short on churches either, topping out at a whopping 313 , including the famed St. John’s Co-Cathedral – which dates back to 1573.
With its picture-perfect settings ideal for beach lounging, Malta is a top spot not just for history buffs but also for those looking to kick back and relax.
January’s got some mega deals with return flights to Malta going for a mere £34.99, so holidaymakers can take advantage of those cheap pints, relax on the beach and soak up some culture, all without feeling the pinch in their wallet.
And if that’s not enough, you can sail over to Comino Island and feast your eyes on the glorious Blue Lagoon, with it’s azure waters straight off of a postcard.
