David Beckham misses out on knighthood once more after leaked emails confirmed fury at honours
David Beckham has been left waiting for a knighthood once again after leaked emails once saw the Manchester United and England legend brand the honours committee “unappreciative c***s”
David Beckham‘s dreams of becoming ‘Sir David’ have been dashed yet again, as he was snubbed by the New Year’s honours list – over seven years since his scathing attack on the honours committee was exposed in leaked emails.
The football legend, who has captained England and boasts a glittering career with stints at Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and PSG, has fans dubbing him a “sir in waiting” due to his impressive haul of silverware, including Premier League, La Liga, and Champions League titles.
Despite founding MLS club Inter Miami and being hailed for his contributions to sport, 49 year old Beckham remains without a knighthood, still holding only the OBE he received in 2003.
The setback comes after bombshell leaks in 2017 revealed Beckham’s fury at missing out on the honour, where he reportedly blasted the committee as “unappreciative c***s” and expressed indifference about being knighted, reports the Mirror.
Although Beckham suggested some emails were tampered with, the leaks included his alleged remark: “I expected nothing less. It’s a disgrace to be honest and if I was American I would of got something like this 10 years ago.”
Beckham reportedly lashed out at opera sensation Katherine Jenkins and her OBE, saying: “Katherine Jenkins OBE for what? Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops. F****** joke”.
Despite his extensive charity work with UNICEF, leaked emails suggest Becks balked at donating $1m to the organisation, allegedly stating: “I don’t want to put my personal money into this cause,” and “To pour this million into the fund, is like putting my own money in. If there was no fund, the money would be for me. This f****** money is mine.”
In defence of the legendary winger, a friend revealed to The Mirror back in 2017: “He is very calm at the moment because he knows the great work that he has done for UNICEF.”
Adding more, the friend mentioned: “But he is just saddened that people would question all of that work. Genuinely, he wasn’t as vitriolic as that, but you do say some things in private and in the heat of the moment.”
And putting it straight from the heart, they said: “To be honest, he does feel that he has given so much to his country. And sometimes you say things in private that anyone would say and you don’t really mean it.”
“While he was frustrated in those emails, he was over it the moment he sent them. Getting the knighthood is not what his work is about. He doesn’t care if he gets a knighthood or not.”
