Shock New Year flood pics present Brits wading by means of thigh-high brown water as vehicles ditched

Parts of the UK has welcomed in 2025 with grim weather and flooding.

Cars have been left stranded and a “do not travel” warning has been issued in the North of England.

Heavy rain has flooded homes and caused disruption throughout Greater Manchester this morning.

Police have rescued people from the A555 as multiple roads and motorways have been closed as a result of the severe flooding.

The Met Office has issued four warnings – three yellow and the most worrying, one amber.

The amber warning covers parts of Blackburn with Darwen, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Derbyshire, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.

Meanwhile the entire south of England, Wales and up to the midlands is clouded in a yellow warning for wind.

Met Office says: “A band of rain will turn increasingly to snow at low levels as it moves south Wednesday morning, then clearing to snow showers in the afternoon, which will continue overnight and through to Thursday morning. 1-3cm are likely at low levels with 5-10cm above 300m, leading to difficult driving conditions and some travel disruption.”

A three-day snow warning has been issued for all parts of Greater Manchester as temperatures look set to plummet this week.

The Met Office has a yellow alert in place 12am on Saturday (January 4) covering the whole of the region. It will remain in force until 9am on Monday (January 6).

Up to 30cm of snow is expected to fall on higher ground, particularly across the Pennines. Strong winds may also spread lying snow.
