GMB: Adil Ray comments about Luke Littler’s weight
Good Morning Britain presenter Adil Ray has come under fire for remarks made about young darts sensation Luke Littler.
The 50-year-old presenter sparked complaints during Thursday’s show (January 2) which he hosted with Kate Garraway. The pair discussed 17-year-old Luke beating Nathan Aspinall 5-2 to storm into the World Darts Championship semi-finals.
But after rolling a clip of the Luke’s performance, Adil decided to complain about Luke’s weight and admitted his comments “might not be very popular.” He said: “I’m a little bit worried about Littler. He’s 17 and he’s turning into the look of a darts player.”
Adil then spoke about Luke’s diet, saying: “Look at him! He’s admitting to having pizzas before a match. I’d be a bit worried.”
Co-host Kate, 57, was puzzled why Adil was fretting since Luke is “so successful”. But Adil shot back: “He’s going to get more successful and he can keep on doing it but I don’t want him to get too unhealthy,” reports the Express.
Kate cracked a smile and quipped that Adil should pop round to Luke’s with a carrot and “see how that goes down”. Adil added: “Just before the final. Here you go, I’ve got a salad for you from Pret.”
The comment didn’t sit well with some viewers who slammed the ITV bloke for “fat shaming” the teen dart champion. One viewer blasted: “Disgusted with Adil Ray fat shaming a 17 year old on #gmb this morning!”
Another added: “Adil Ray just casually fat shaming a 17 year old kid on Good Morning Britain, should he ashamed.” A third penned: “@GMB your hosts fat shaming Luke Littler, a 17-year-old boy, is unacceptable and unnecessary. Clearly a bitter and unhappy new year for Adil and Kate.”
A fourth viewer was incensed, demanding an apology from the presenter: “I can’t believe the body shaming by Adil Ray on this morning’s GMB about Luke Littler. This programme will have carried disapproving items on body shaming the past. Leave the young lad alone. Would he have said that about a woman? I think an apology is in order.”
