Ruben Amorim admits what each Man Utd fan hates to listen to as he sends Liverpool warning
Ruben Amorim believes Manchester United can beat Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday despite the 25-point gap between his relegation battlers and the Premier League leaders
Ruben Amorim admits Liverpool are better than Manchester United but has backed his flops to defy the odds and produce a shock win at Anfield.
United travel to Merseyside as huge underdogs following four straight defeats in all competitions. To make matters worse United have a woeful record away against Liverpool. United haven’t scored a goal at Anfield since 2018, or won there since 2016. United also got tonked 7-0 at Anfield under Erik ten Hag in 2022 in a record heaviest defeat. While the last time United went four games there without scoring a goal was back in 1909. Some people are predicting a similar outcome this time around. But Amorim reckons United can put a spanner in Liverpool’s title charge. He said: “It’s a difficult moment because we are losing too many games – and going to face the best team this season. But in football, in one game, anything can happen.
“They are better than us, but we can win any game. We have to focus on the performance and not the context. “We are capable of winning the game. We know it will be tough. They are a strong team, but we have worked on winning the game – and will try to do that.”
Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League and Champions League. They go into the weekend with a six-point lead over second-placed Arsenal, plus a game in hand over the Gunners.
United are slumped in 14th in the table, seven points clear of 18th placed Ipswich Town, with Amorim having admitted his struggling side could face a relegation battle.
