Top Gear’s Richard Hammond flops in driving check after forgetting to do one factor

Top Gear and Grand Tour star Richard Hammond took his driving test again, but things didn’t go as planned for the TV presenter and his daughter Izzy Hammond, who struggled to park

TV star Richard Hammond took part in a mock practical driving test – but managed to fail for one huge reason, a shoddy parallel park.

Richard and his daughter, Izzy Hammond, took to the quiet roads of Herefordshire to simulate a driving test which hundreds of learners go through every single day. However, despite his career carved around motors, Richard could not do the bare necessities – pass. In the latest episode of their DriveTribe YouTube show, they teamed up with TikTok sensation and driving instructor, Aman, from Clearviewdriving, who boasts over 1.3 million followers.

Through her YouTube and TikTok videos, she films students she is taking on driving lessons and mock tests. A camera is set up in the car, and a dash cam also reveals what is going on in the road. There, she calmly explains driving skills and reveals where certain students go wrong.

The video shows Hammond navigating through Hereford in a bright new blue MG car, tackling various elements of the UK driving test. At one vital point, Richard seemed momentarily confused at an Asda roundabout, unsure of where to stop amid the busy traffic.

Aman later revealed that neither of the Hammonds had passed the mock test – both failed due to errors in parallel parking, particularly failing to check their blind spots correctly. However, he noted that Richard had slightly outperformed his daughter.

Luckily, as it was just a practice run, their licences were not affected. Izzy failed her driving test due to not checking her blind spots and having issues with parallel parking, even going onto the kerb. However, she argued that ‘the car can do it for you’ and that ‘you don’t have to always parallel park as there’s other places to park’, reports Gloucestershire Live.

Richard, on the other hand, didn’t check his blind spots at all when parallel parking, but would have passed the test otherwise. Despite this, Izzy still would have failed hers.

Known for his roles in Top Gear and Grand Tour, among other TV shows, Richard is a familiar face around Ross-on-Wye, where he resides in Weston-under-Penyard. His classic car renovation business is also based in Rotherwas, at his Smallest Cog workshop.
