Brits will see a cash boost this weekend as the Cold Weather Payments have been triggered after temperatures have plummeted across the UK.

Ahead of the next snowy 48 hours, those eligible and within the 18 postcodes, should expect the £25 benefit to land in their accounts over the next two weeks.

The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) are able to issue, between 1 November 2024 and 31 March, the sum for qualifying households to help assist in the freezing temperatures.

Those with certain postcodes in Cumbria, Northumberland and along the Scottish border could be in for the £25 Cold Weather Payment – that can be claimed for each seven day period of ‘very cold weather’. Eligible Brits will be notified of this.

The payment will come in handy as the UK was bitten by the icy temperatures over night including; -8C in parts of Scotland and Northern England, reports the Mirror

As the yellow warning banner for more snow and ice is issued, stretching over all of England, barring the South West, along with all of Wales, it’s clear this cold cash couldn’t come at a better time.

The DWP state: “DWP’s Cold Weather Payments are an automatic bank top-up of £25, triggered to be paid to eligible households when the average temperature has been recorded as, or is forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below for seven consecutive days at the weather station linked to an eligible person’s postcode.

“The £25 payments will be paid automatically to households receiving certain benefits including, Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Universal Credit and Support for Mortgage Interest.

“The money will appear in bank statements within 14 days of each seven-day period of very cold weather between 1 November 2024 and 31 March 2025, with the payment reference starting with the customer’s national Insurance number followed by ‘DWP CWP’ for people in England and Wales.”

The chilly temperatures are expected to stick around, with the Met Office forecasting that snow will start ‘accumulating’ from Friday evening, continuing across the weekend into Sunday, before morphing into rain over central and southern parts of England. However, northern England could see significant snowfall all day Sunday.

Met Office Chief Forecaster Jason Kelly sounded the alarm: “This weekend will bring a range of weather hazards to the UK, including noteworthy snow accumulations, freezing rain, ice and heavy rain, as well as some blustery conditions.

“We’ve rolled out several severe weather warnings, with Amber warnings for snow and ice hitting parts of England and Wales.
