Budgie smugglers have been voted one of the sexiest items of clothing a bloke can wear for 2025. The teeny weeny briefs – invented in 1959 by surfer Peter Travis, who created the trunks for Speedo – were in the top five of the ‘sexiest items’ a bloke could wear.
In the poll of 2,000 women – asked to choose what they reckoned was ‘hot’ for 2025 – the James Bond-style tuxedo came top. A tailored suit was in second spot, followed by a kilt – with Speedos in at No4.
The poll – by married dating site Illicit Encounters – asked women to pick the items of clothing which made them go weak at the knees on a fella.
Hawaiian shirts also made the cut, coming in eighth place whilst cardigans took the tenth spot.
Laura Spencer, 38, of Maidstone, Kent, said she loved a bloke in a nicely-fitted suit, but also a fella in budgie smugglers.
She said: “When Daniel Craig walked out of the sea in his budgie smugglers in Casino Royale I almost fell off my seat, but I also love him in a suit.
“Either way would be fine I suppose.”
Jessica Leoni, of Illicit Encounters, said dressing smartly was a definite ‘magnet’ for many women, but that a kilt and Speedos were ‘surprise’ entries.
She said: “A well-dressed man is definitely a draw to many women – think James Bond, from the original Sean Connery to Daniel Craig and all-inbetween.
“Our study found that Speedos aren’t far behind, so Daniel Craig has that angle covered too after his budgie smuggling scene in Casino Royale.”
Budgie Smugglers may seem like a good look to the ladies, however two fellas who turned up at Phuket airport in Thailand wearing nothing but the swimsuit and a pair of flip flops sparked anger, with people claiming the pair were disrespecting Thai culture.
