Manchester United star Luke Shaw has riled up the Old Trafford support after being spotted doing a TikTok video with Molly-Mae Hague.

The injured defender – who earns £150,000 a week with the Red Devils – joined in with New Year’s celebrations alongside wife Anouska and boxer Tommy Fury’s ex-girlfriend, Love Island star Molly-Mae.

The England international, who has only played three games this season due to injury, was featured in the video, which went viral online. The clip saw Shaw mouthing the words: ‘Your mum’s on benefits.’

These lyrics are from a song which has become a massive trend on TikTok. However, Shaw’s attempt to join in with the movement has been deemed “embarrassing” and hasn’t gone down well with United fans while their team are in the doldrums.

One fan tweeted: “Manchester United in the worst form of my lifetime and Luke Shaw is doing TikTok’s with MollyMae,” and a second added: ‘Luke Shaw doing TikTok’s with Molly Mae, he would never play again if Fergie was still in charge. Embarrassing club?!’

A third shared their brutal opinion writing: “Bruh, we are fighting relegation and he’s taking the p*** saying your mom’s on benefits. Is this an actual football club? Why is everyone doing his own thing that is anything but football?”

It’s clear that United fans believe Shaw should be focusing on his recovery and getting back to starting football matches. The fallen Premier League giants currently sit 14th, with their manager Ruben Amorim admitting they could face a relegation battle.

Shaw’s last start for United was in February 2024. Although he made a return to football in late November, it only took 68 minutes of on-field time until the England international was injured again.

However, some fans have defended Shaw, with one saying: “Fans are so toxic it’s embarrassing. Yes a player [is] allowed to have some fun and banter over new years with his friends and his family, get over it.”

Another commented: “Yes, I forgot when somebody is having a horrible time at work they’re not allowed to go out and celebrate New Years or have a social life.” And a third said: “You know footballers have downtime outside of training and matches, right?”

A fourth United fan added: “He appeared on less than 5 seconds of video and you’re giving him heat . Don’t you think they have lives outside football? Do you yourself dedicate yourself to whatever it is you do to that extent where even 5 seconds of clip on social media becomes a problem?”

United will have the ultimate chance to lighten up their support when they face Liverpool tomorrow (Sunday, January 5). Amorim has already beaten local rivals Man City, now the question is if he can do it again against the fiercest of opponents.
