TV comedian Romesh Ranganathan taken to a nudist camp by his mum for weird purpose
Comedian Romesh Ranganathan’s mum tricked her son into paying a nudist camp a visit – ‘walking around somewhere like that with clothes on, you actually feel weird’
TV funnyman Romesh Ranganathan has revealed his mum took him to a nudist camp – claiming she was checking out a new gym.
Romesh, who will host A League Of Their Own for its 19th series on January 9, is still haunted by the experience. His mother Shanthi did not tell her famous comic son that the visit was to a naturists’ space, but instead a trip to a health club.
The Radio 2 host, who is also on tour, was stunned at seeing a chap fixing a car in his birthday suit, which didn’t worry Shanthi in the slightest.
Romesh confessed: “My mum surprised me with a nudist camp. This is genuinely a true story. She said to me, ’Oh Ramesh, can you come with me?
“There’s a new club I’m looking at and I don’t want to go on my own. Do you mind coming with me?’ So I said, ‘yeah, okay’. And she didn’t say (much else). She didn’t give me any more detail than that.
“We turn up at the driveway of this club. It is near where I live, and we walk up the driveway and there’s a guy working on his car completely naked.
“I was shocked, obviously, because not only is it strange, it is a health and safety nightmare. I was shocked. And my mum did not bat an eyelid. That was my first red flag.
“We then walked into it and then she basically decided (to look around), one of her friends has recommended this sort of nudist camp, but she hasn’t told me that detail.
“I then spend an hour being shown around a nudist camp with my mother,
“And then they ask us if we want to join together.”
Romesh says his mum knew the whole time that the place was for nudists, but kept her son in the dark.
“She knew. Honestly, her poker face was incredible. And what I would say is, walking around somewhere like that with clothes on, you actually feel weird.”
Romesh spoke about the flesh flashing escapade on his Radio 2 show.
When asked whether they had accepted the membership offer, Romesh then turned sarcastic, admitting: “Yeah. I’ve been a member ever since. I go every Saturday. That’s my Saturday fixture. Nudity with mother.” He co hosted ITV comedy series Parent’s Evening with his mum last year.
