Disgusting deep fried rat found in takeaway kitchen as UK’s filthiest revealed
Some of the worst takeaway joints on these shores have been revealed – with one in Lancashire beating them all when inspectors found what appeared to be a deep fried rat
The dirtiest takeaway shops in the UK have been revealed with new stats showing nearly one in 20 are so filthy they failed health inspections.
Late-night takeaway joints are places almost everyone has found themselves in after a night out. In these often drunken moments, us Brits flock to their counters, requesting greasy treats in order to offset the incoming hangover. But in the cold light of day, perhaps these oases should be examined more closely.
Take one Lancashire takeaway shop, where shocked health inspectors found what appeared to be a deep fried rat in the kitchen in September this year. Mexicano Food Box, in Preston, was also discovered to have insect and rodent droppings throughout the entire premises.
All 63,400 fast food outlets in the UK are rated on a scale between zero and five, report MailOnline. Two or less is considered a failure in health standards, and according to the publication 196 of these joints score a zero, 1,315 are rated one out of five and 1,530 have been handed a two.
And it’s not just your dodgy late night joint, major chains such as Pizza Hut and Greggs both have at least one outlet that is screaming out for improvement.
Liverpool and Waltham Forest are tied for the worst places to seek late night fried cuisine, with 20 firms each scoring zero. Birmingham isn’t far behind, with 17. In Scotland, 592 joints received an “Improvement Needed” from Food Standards Scotland (FSS).
Compiled by the FSA and FSS, the ratings don’t consider the quality of the food on offer, only whether it’s been prepared, stored and handled correctly. If there’s any evidence of rodent and/or insect activity, or if there’s rotting or out of date food, these kitchens get marked down.
