Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim ‘won’t again down’ and stands by Liverpool sport plan
Ruben Amorim has sent a message to his critics as he named his Manchester United team to face Liverpool at Anfield, with the Portuguese coach making three changes
Ruben Amorim has vowed to stick to his guns ahead of Manchester United’s crunch clash with Liverpool on Sunday.
The gaffer has shaken things up, dropping Marcus Rashford and Godwill Kukonki from the squad that locked horns with Newcastle, while welcoming back Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte from their time in the sin bin.
Amorim’s made a trio of tweaks to his starting line-up, giving the midfield a new lease of life as Kobbie Mainoo and Ugarte step in for Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.
Skipper duties fall to Fernandes as he steps in for Joshua Zirkzee, ready to lead the Red Devils into what’s shaping up to be a tough afternoon at Anfield against the league leaders.
Speaking to Sky Sports before the match, Amorim said: “We have to take the ball in a different way to this team used to do it, like more in transition, but now we have to take the ball slowly. We need to build up in a different way and I will not change that because it’s the way I see the game.
“Then we need to give some structure to the team, strong defenders to control better the game, but if you look at Mazraoui, he is maybe one of the best ones to take the ball and try to drive the ball. We want to have the ball and in the last games we suffered the first goal from set-pieces.”
“We need strong guys in set-pieces to try avoid these moments that are really hurting us. Of course, from the outside it’s really easy to pick a team after a game but in this moment I choose the team that I think gives us the best chance of winning the game,” reports the Manchester Evening News.
Amorim provided an update on Rashford’s status, stating: “He’s still ill, so he’s not available for the game.”
