Manchester United midfielder Casemiro may not have been utilised by Ruben Amorim at Anfield, but he did manage a brief appearance on the pitch.

The Brazilian was left on the bench as United put up a brave fight to secure a draw against Liverpool, the Premier League leaders. The 2-2 result was a huge boost for the Red Devils after a season of struggles so far.

The Red Devils might have felt they deserved more when Harry Maguire sent the ball over the bar in the final moments. United had already been forced to stage a late comeback in the game.

Although the visitors took the lead with a powerful strike from Lisandro Martinez, goals from Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah led many to anticipate a Liverpool victory on Sunday afternoon. However, Alejandro Garnacho connected with Amad Diallo in Liverpool’s area to influence the final score.

The young star has been crucial for Ruben Amorim, beating Alisson Becker to earn United a point. The winger’s celebrations were well-earned, but with just 10 minutes remaining, there was little time to bask in the adulation of the travelling fans.

After sliding across the pitch and celebrating with his team-mates, he was given some time alone to receive praise from supporters while he kissed the United crest, reports the Mirror.

As the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Noussair Mazraoui chatted while trotting back to their spots, United’s Amad basked in his shining moment amid the drizzle. Casemiro, donning his hood to fend off the rain, approached the young talent to offer some kudos as well as a nudge to keep him on the ball.

Giving Amad a guiding hand on the shoulder to steer him away from daydreaming by the pitch, the ex-Real Madrid maestro showed the experience he brings to the squad even when he’s not commanding the field.

Post-match, Bruno Fernandes was all about raising the bar: “Being 2-1 [down] then scoring it’s good to get a point but we need more,” he griped. “Now we have an FA Cup tie at Arsenal and it is going to be very tough but we want to get to the final again.

“We know how tough it is to play against Liverpool. Today we put in a real effort to the game, playing with some passion and heart is what is going to give you something from the game. You have to put in effort and that’s why we took something from today.

“It can’t stop here, We have to bring this frustration to the next game to understand this has to be the level. If we can do it an Anfield, we have to do it everywhere.”
