Pictured: Schoolgirl, seven, killed in two-car crash ‘on the best way house from father-daughter procuring journey to spend her Christmas cash’

A seven-year-old girl was on her way home from a shopping trip with her father when she died in a horrific two-car crash.

Schoolgirl Elsie Gascoigne died in hospital a day after she suffered serious injuries when a blue Kia Rio collided with a white Citroen Relay on the B1202 Metheringham Heath Lane in Lincoln.

She was treated at the scene following the crash on Friday, January 3, at 5.45pm, but died the next day at 4.30am.

Elsie was returning home with her father, Jamie, from a shopping trip where she had spent some of her Christmas money, according to a fundraiser set up in her memory.

Her father is currently in a critical condition in hospital.

Lincolnshire police said Elsie’s family is now being supported by specially trained officers.

Another person sustained serious injuries during the crash and another two were believed to have suffered minor injuries.

Following the incident Bloxholm Lane, the B1188, and the A15, were closed several hours.

Elsie was returning home with her father, Jamie, after spending the day spending some of her Christmas money, according to a fundraiser set up in her memory

A Just Giving page set up by a family friend in Elsie’s memory has raised just over £3,500 which will go towards costs for her funeral and a memorial.

The fundraiser reads: ‘Unfortunately, the crash claimed the life of Elsie which has left the family in tears and disbelief. Jamie has been left in critical condition after sustaining multiple serious injuries and has a long road to recovery.

‘This event is both horrific and unimaginable and we want to support the family through this tough time. We are asking for donations to support Jamie through his recovery and to help towards the cost of the funeral and a memorial piece for Elsie.’

Police have appealed for any witnesses or people with dashcam footage around the time of the incident to contact them.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said: ‘We continue to ask for help from anyone who may have been driving along the B1202 at a similar time to the incident, particularly if you witnessed or captured any footage of the incident itself or saw either a blue Kia Rio, a white Citroen Relay or any other vehicles along that road.

‘Please get in touch if you think you can help and have not yet spoken with us. You can do this by emailing the Serious Collision Investigation Team on: [email protected], quoting incident number 292 of January 3.’
