Roy Keane found himself in agreement with Bruno Fernandes after Manchester United‘s unexpected draw with Liverpool, slamming his old club despite the point at Anfield.

Against a backdrop of three goalless Premier League losses, United’s spirited display was almost enough to snatch all three points from their Premier League table-topping rivals. However, Old Trafford legend Keane couldn’t hide his frustration, questioning why such form seems to be reserved for top-tier opposition only.

“Manchester United turned up,” Keane said on Sky Sports. “They showed a bit of passion. They did it at Manchester City recently as well.”

But the straight-talking pundit quickly added a dose of reality, insisting that United’s selective performance highs don’t cut it: “The argument to all of this though is that you can’t just pick and choose when you want to turn up for a game at Manchester United.

“I don’t think anyone would have predicted them scoring two goals today or nearly nicking it at the end. But the key is that they have to back it up.”

United captain Fernandes has been criticised for his captaincy by Keane previously, but the two were on the same page about the Red Devils’ afternoon, as he echoed the Irishman’s comments in his post-match interview. “We have been criticised and fairly,” he told Sky Sports.

“Our position in the table says it all, we have lost too many points. Even today we can’t be happy with a point. We need the points and we could’ve won the game at the end, but it’s a fair result. Both teams played good football.

“I’m pretty upset. If we show this level at Liverpool, first in the league, why can’t we do this everywhere? It frustrates me. Also, finally I did a proper performance. We said we need much more from ourselves to get more from this season.”

United boss Ruben Amorim, shared his discontent with the outcome as well. Remaining ‘really mad’ about the way things turned out, concurring with his captain. “That should be a big issue for our players that even one person thinks you have the ability but not the character, we have to fight that and change that,” Amorim said

“When we are focused, when we fight for every ball, when we suffer and we are tired when the game is finished, we are a good team. If we don’t do that all the time then we are going to lose games.”

However, he didn’t dismiss the effort and performance his players produced, “It was a good game,” he added. “I’m happy for the performance not happy for the result. But I’m really, really mad because of the other games.”
