Steven Gerrard to be a grandad at 45 as daughter having child with son of jailed gangster
Lilly-Ella Gerrard, the daughter of former Liverpool captain and current Al-Ettifaq boss Steven Gerrard, is expecting her first child with her boyfriend Lee Byrne
Steven Gerrard‘s eldest daughter, Lilly-Ella, has revealed she is expecting her first child with boyfriend Lee Byrne, the son of a jailed gangster.
The 20-year-old shared a snap of her positive pregnancy test on Instagram, captioning it: “Our little secret. The best news… mini us is on the way.” Her beau, Lee, is the son of notorious Irish criminal Liam Byrne, who was sentenced to five years in prison for weapons charges in October 2024.
Byrne Snr pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import firearms and is expected to only serve half of his sentence, with him already serving 14 months in custody when he was convicted late last year after being arrested in Spain in 2023. Lee is head over heels for Lilly-Ella, previously describing her as “the best person he’s ever met”.
The couple were first linked just over two years ago when they were spotted holidaying together in Ibiza when Lilly was 18, and Lee then 23. Lee himself is not involved in any criminal activities, but his father has a fearsome reputation.
Liverpool legend Gerrard, 44, who will be 45 in May, currently lives in Bahrain with his wife Alex Curran and their four children, Lilly, Lexie, 18, Lourdes, 13 and eight-year-old son Leo, after taking up the role of head coach at Al-Ettifaq in 2023.
Gerrard signed a fresh two-year deal in January with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, securing his stay until 2027 amid speculation over his future following the team’s poor run of form.
Despite steering the squad to sixth place during his first season, he’s still facing a difficult second year in the job, sparking rumours about his future in the Middle East.
Al-Ettifaq are currently 11th, just six points above the relegation zone with the spotlight intensifying on Gerrard. Following assistant shake-ups – bidding farewell to Dean Holden and Mark Allen, with Michael Beale stepping in last November – Gerrard weighed in: “The club made decisions regarding the departure of Mark Allen and Dean Holden.
“The decision was also made to bring Michael Beale in who is a super coach, we spent years together previously and it’s great to have him back with me. Now we need some time to develop and improve.”
