WWE star Johnny Gargano needs to battle Stranger Things demon forward of firm’s debut on Netflix
EXCLUSIVE WWE star Johnny Gargano sat down with the Daily Star to chat all things Netflix ahead of the company’s much-talked about debut on the streaming platform tomorrow at 1am
A top WWE star has admitted that he would love to do a crossover with one of Netflix ‘s top shows ahead of the company’s debut on the streaming service. WWE is set to debut live on Netflix tomorrow at 1am (UK time) with the historic Monday Night Raw moving from linear television to the streaming platform.
Teh near-£5billion deal to bring WWE content to Netflix was announced last year, and will also see all live Premium Live Events, weekly shows NXT and Smackdown and archive content showcased on the service in the UK, with most of it already available to view.
And ahead of the move, one half of the WWE Tag Team Champions Johnny Gargano told the Daily Star that he was excited for the potential crossovers the move could bring.
He said: “I really enjoy the show ‘Nailed It’. It’s like a baking show. I really enjoy that. But if we’re talking, like, non-reality competitions, Stranger Things is a go to. I think that was, like, the first thing I streamed, that I ever binged on Netflix. So I’m going to go with Stranger Things.”
And when asked if he wants to wrestle a Demogorgan, he said: “Yeah! That’d be great right? That’d be awesome.”
Gargano, alongside long-time friend, enemy and tag team partner Tomasso Ciampa, are the current champions under the DIY name. He is also part of the same company as wife Candice LeRae – with both of them spending a lot of time on the UK independent scene several years ago.
And with that in mind, and a few months after the WWE announced a new independent scouting system called WWE ID, Gargano gave his thoughts on his memories of wrestling in the UK.
He said: “I spent a lot of time here in England. Even back to my first time, the thing I can remember most is that the UK fans are absolutely one of a kind. They are so nice and polite, but when you put them in that crowd atmosphere, they’re so rowdy and electric.
“It really makes a difference as a performer when you get that energy, especially with all the travel. Honestly, the travel sucks, it’s tiresome, you get jet lagged and all that. As soon as you get through
that curtain, you hear that awesome crowd, it changes everything.” He also took the chance to clarify something that is very wrong on his Wikipedia page – which the Daily Star has now fixed.
He explained: “Wikipedia says I was born in Lakewood, Ohio. That is not correct! I was born in Cleveland, Ohio. So anyone out there hearing this, change my Wikipedia to Cleveland, Ohio, not Lakewood, Ohio. I’ve done so many interviews, and people have said Lakewood, and it’s wrong! So there you go.”
