Windass, who is the son of Premier League cult hero Dean Windass, channeled his inner David Beckham over the turn of the New Year as he found the net from inside of his own half for Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls star was already on something of a hot-streak, having found the net in his previous four league matches, before he picked up his head and let fly with a spectacular effort that soared over Rams’ keeper Jacob Zetterström.

And his impressive form has caught the eye of Santos and speaking on talkSPORT with Shaun Custis and Henry Winter, Windass confirmed that an offer has indeed come in for him.

Custis quizzed the 30-year-old on the reported £10million offer, which led to Windass responding: “I don’t think it’s that much!”

Santos’ boss is Windass’ former Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha. “I used to work with him,” Windass said on a potential reunion. “It came as a surprise this morning to be honest when my agent called me.

“I love playing where I’m playing. Obviously when your contract is up and stuff like that, there’s always going to be talk like there always is. It came as a surprise this morning because I’ve not spoken to or seen Pedro in a long time. But it is what it is, when you’re in form, this sort of stuff happens.”

Windass was then reminded that Santos’ most-famous son is Pele: “I know, he weren’t bad was he! I’m not sure if any Hull-born players have played in Brazil to be honest, so we’ll have to see.”
