Eden Hazard now mates with millionaire ball boy he booted at Swansea in purple card disgrace
Almost twelve years on from his infamous red card, Ed Hazard is now friends with the Swansea ball boy turned-millionaire entrepreneur he kicked in red card farce
From one of the biggest footballing shames, Eden Hazard is now friends with the Swansea City ball boy he was sent off for kicking.
In January 2013, Chelsea were chasing to overturn a 2-0 aggregate deficit to Swansea City in the League Cup semi-final after the Swans won at Stamford Bridge for the first time in 87 years in the first-leg. As time slipped away from the Blues, Hazard wanted to get the ball back in play as quickly as possible after the ball had gone out for a Swansea goal kick.
In a desperate attempt to prize the ball from Swansea ball boy Charlie Morgan, who had fallen on the ball in a bid to waste time, the Belgian kicked Morgan in the ribs attempting to retrieve the ball from underneath him. The incident saw Hazard, who turns 34 today, January 7, shown a straight red card in one of the most bizarre and crazy dismissals ever seen.
But in a surprising turn of events, Hazard reunited with now-multi-millionaire entrepreneur Morgan. After having made headlines with his cheeky antics at the time, Morgan has since launched a successful business career, setting up Au Vodka alongside his old school friend Jackson Quinn.
The duos’ success even saw Hazard reunited with Morgan as the two posed for an Au Vodka photoshoot. As well as boasting an impressive list of celebrity clients, the pair have struck a deal to have the vodka stocked on EasyJet planes.
They confirmed via the brand’s social media account that the flashy, gold bottled alcoholic beverage will be available on both domestic and international flights. According to pictures on Instagram, 50ml – a double shot – of Au Vodka Blue Raspberry can be bought for £6.50.
It comes after Brazil football legend Ronaldinho endorsed the blue vodka by posing on social media with a glass. Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather and UFC star Paddy Pimblett have also given the vodka their seal of approval online.
Even rapper Fredo and former Radio 1 Xtra DJ Charlie Sloth have been spotted with Au Vodka, with Sloth investing in the business after being impressed with a free sample. Au Vodka’s massive success has seen Morgan nab a spot on the Sunday Times Rich List, boasting a whopping estimated net worth of over £40million.
Talking about his achievements to WalesOnline in August 2022, he said: “It’s almost hard to take a moment to reflect when we have the next big project coming up and there is always something new we’re working on.
“But, looking back on how far we have come, it’s been such an immense journey with plenty of milestones hit and definitely so much more to come.”
