Pep Guardiola informed Man City may have ‘nerves’ over FA Cup tie with Salford City
The FA Cup may represent Manchester City’s best chance at silverware this year amid a miserable season for the reigning Premier League champions
Paul Scholes reckons Manchester City will have the jitters ahead of their FA Cup clash with his minnows Salford City this weekend.
But he still believes Salford have no chance of causing one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history. The third round clash at the Etihad on Saturday will be a genuine David & Goliath encounter between two clubs at opposite ends of the footballing spectrum.
League Two outfit Salford will be in the third round for the first time in their history. While City have been the dominant force of English football in the last decade.
Pep Guardiola‘s side have won 18 trophies since he took charge on 2016, including the Champions League and FA Cup itself, twice. City have endured a miserable season so far, following a woeful run of just three wins in their last 15 outings.
Salford co-owner Scholes does not envisage a famous win for his men, but knows City’s form will leave them feeling a little nervous at least. The former midfielder won 25 major trophies during a glittering career with City’s neighbours Manchester United.
And he told The Overlap Fan Debate: “It’s the first time Salford have ever been in the FA Cup third round. I’m looking forward to it, but we’re not going to win.
“We are doing alright to be honest and City are struggling a little bit, so there will be a few nerves there.”
