Grovelling Nigel Farage is heading to the US to try to rebuild his ruined relationship with billionaire Elon Musk. The Reform leader branded the Tesla boss “cool” and said he wanted to make amends during a trip for Trump’s inauguration as US president.

The SpaceX owner, who met Mr Farage in December and had been rumoured to be considering making a large donation to Reform, appeared to turn on the party leader over the weekend, tweeting that he “doesn’t have what it takes”.

Mr Farage said that although Mr Musk’s support was not “crucial”, he thought Reform would be weaker without it.

He said: “Not having Elon’s support would damage us with that younger generation because he kind of makes us look cool, so I’m being frank about that, and I am confident that whatever has been said, we can mend. I really think we can.”

He added: “Of course I want his support; of course I will talk to him in America in a few days’ time; of course I want to mend any broken fences that might exist.”

The bust up followed Mr Farage’s refusal to support jailed, far-right activist Tommy Robinson, after Musk’s call on X to “free” him. But he said he stood by his stance not to “embrace” Robinson.

He said: “We’re a political party aiming to win the next general election. He’s not what we need.” It comes as Musk’s dad Errol said people should tell his son to “get lost” if they didn’t agree with him.

He urged people to “ignore” him after the tech billionaire accused Sir Keir Starmer of failing to tackle grooming gangs during his time as Director of Public Prosecutions between 2008 and 2013.

The PM hit back and accused Musk of being “desperate for attention” and urged him to stop spreading “lies” and “whipping up intimidation”.

Errol said: “I mean, he’s just a person. The fact that he has money or something, he’s a billionaire or something to that effect. I mean, hundreds of thousands of people are tweeting the same things or saying the same things as he is.

“So I wouldn’t just because he’s a person that stands out more that they can knock him or just don’t listen to him, that’s all. I’d say don’t worry about it. Tell him to get lost.”
