Britain’s favorite meal deal combo revealed as ‘gross’ snack tops ballot
Squeamish office workers were left with the bitter taste in their mouth by the United Kingdom’s new favourite lunchtime snack – the, dreaded by some, boiled egg pot
Britain has a new favourite Tesco meal deal combination – and there is bad news for those who feel squeamish about work colleagues scoffing a cold hard-boiled egg ‘al desko’. For the two years before 2024, the Sausage Bacon and Egg Triple, McCoy’s Flame Grilled Steak crisps and a bottle of Coca-Cola was the nations favourite meal deal combination – which costs £3.60 with a Clubcard and £4 without.
However, two new options moved into claim the top spot on the 2024 meal deal leader board. The Chicken Club Sandwich was the favourite main and – to the disgust of some – the boiled egg snack, dubbed the Tesco Egg Protein Pot, knocked McCoy’s off the favourite snack slot.
The 500ml Coca-Cola remains undefeated in the favourite drink division – marking its third year at the top of the meal deal leader boards. Hater of all things boiled egg, Daily Star’s Layla Nicholson called for the “protein pot” to be banished.
She told the Daily Star: “The egg protein pot being the national choice of meal deal snack makes me ashamed to be British.
“We need to stop the war on enjoyment and find happiness once again. First they came for our cigarettes, then our pubs and now our lunchtime crisps. Egg pot begone!”
Back in August, Tesco introduced a “game changing” revamp to their much-loved meal deal. Ice creams and lollies could be swapped out for the – dreaded by some – boiled eggs and traditional crisps option.
Solero, Magnum, Calippo, Feast, Twister, Cadbury Flake cone, or even an Oreo ice cream sandwich are all on the table after the revamp which set social media alight. Scores of Brits hailed the move as ‘revolutionary’ and a total ‘game-changer’.
“Oh my days! This is the best news ever,” exclaimed one chuffed user on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Another chimed in saying: “I’ve just had a Magnum as a mid afternoon snack and life has never better,” while another shared: “That’s the sort of life tip that could truly turn my day/week around!”
