Where Kobbie Mainoo’s £200k wage demand would depart him in comparison with Man Utd stars

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly demanding £200,000 a week to sign a new contract, which has the potential to put him among the club’s top earners

Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo could soon join the club’s top earners amid talk of a bumper contract extension.

It’s reported talks have recently hit a snag, with Mainoo’s representatives demanding a whopping £200,000 a week if he’s to sign a new deal. Chelsea are understood to be lurking in the background as United may need to offload homegrown talent to comply with the Premier League‘s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The 19-year-old currently has a contract until 2027 and was a standout player last term under Erik ten Hag, even scoring a pivotal goal in their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. And The Mirror broke down how his proposed salary would stack up against United’s top earners.

Casemiro is currently United’s highest earner, pocketing an astonishing £350,000 a week. The soon-to-be 33-year-old has shown flashes of his Real Madrid brilliance, but questions linger about his ability to excel in Amorim’s system.

For now, he’s still earning a little less than £20million a year, with his contract due to expire in June 2026. United captain Bruno Fernandes and wantaway Marcus Rashford are next on £300,000 a week, with the latter being touted for a January exit amid links to AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund.

Mason Mount, who signed from Chelsea for £55m on a five-year deal in 2023, is United’s fourth-highest earner. But despite earning £250,000 a week, United have yet to see much return on their investment.

After only 20 appearances and one goal in his debut season, persistent injuries have continued to hamper the England international this term. Mount has managed 12 appearances this season and played a full 90 minutes for the club on just one occasion.

If Mainoo’s demands are met, he would join £86m signing Antony as the club’s fifth-highest earner on £200,000 a week. Antony – who is widely considered one of United’s worst signings – is tied into a five-year deal but is rumoured to be considering a January exit as the club contemplates cutting their losses.

Summer signings Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui – signed by Amorim’s predecessor Ten Hag – earn £195,000 and £135,000 a week, respectively. Meanwhile, former captain Harry Maguire – who recently extended his contract by one year – reportedly earns £189,000 a week.

Christian Eriksen and injury-prone Luke Shaw are next in line, each earning a weekly wage of £150,000. Meanwhile, Manuel Ugarte, Andre Onana, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof reportedly rake in £120,000 apiece per week.

Despite being United’s standout performer under Amorim, 22-year-old Amad Diallo earns a more modest wage of just under £29,000 a week. However, like Mainoo, the Ivorian is expected to sign a new long-term contract in the coming weeks as Amorim’s rebuild gains momentum.
