Fish with ‘human tooth’ makes a splash as seafood discover goes viral
This fish must have a good dentist.
A Brazilian businesswoman Paula Monteira went viral earlier this week after she shared images of a fish sporting human-like teeth.
The video, which has more than 5.2 million views on her Instagram account, showed the fish lying on a grill as her family vacationed in southeastern Brazil.
Monteira filmed herself playing with the fish’s mouth and lifting its upper lip to show off the uncanny gnashers.
‘No, but teeth like that? Like dentures? Look here!’ she quipped.
Monteira then pulled down the fish’s lower lip and was amazed by its full row of teeth.
‘They look like human teeth, no kidding,’ she said.
Monteira said that some of her Instagram followers initially thought the video was just ‘fake news.’

Paula Monteira told DailyMail.com that she ‘didn’t have courage to eat it’ the fish
She told DailyMail.com that the catch was among three that the her family purchased for $49 on December 30 following a beach outing with her grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.
They were not aware of the fish’s unique features until they returned to their rental for the family dinner.
‘I was shocked when I saw that fish. I thought it was so bizarre and funny at the same time,’ Monteira said.
‘That’s why I took my phone and recorded that video and posted at my Instagram account.’
She said her uncle seasoned the fish with garlic and salt, and grilled it for 30 minutes.
However, the seafood lover skipped out on the meal because it reminded her of a ‘human being.’
‘I didn’t have courage to eat it,’ she said.
‘But my family ate it and they told it me tasted like fish, just like the others, and it is really good.’

The fish, a sheepshead seabream, is found in the Western Atlantic Ocean.
They can grow up to 35 inches in length and weigh as much as 35 pounds.
Marine biologist João Gasparani told Brazilian news outlet G1 that the fish’s strong set of teeth is crucial in helping it feed.
‘It has strong incisors that look like human teeth. This is due to evolution,’ he explained.
‘The animal eats shellfish, even pulling mussels and mussels out of rocks, so it needs very strong teeth,’ added Gasparani, who is part of a research team the Espirito Santo Federal University.
‘It also has teeth on the roof of its mouth, and these teeth are all rounded, so it crushes shells, snails and crabs.’
