Football pundit Micah Richards admits he’d loved to have become an actor and become the next Denzel Washington. The Match of the Day star, 36, would have fancied a go on EastEnders too, which he used to watch “religiously” after football training.

The A League of Their Own panellist said: “I always wanted to be an actor. I just feel like I enjoy embracing different roles. I think as well I am a good reader of people and I can sense the vibe in the room.

“So if it needs to be dropped down a little bit, I can drop it down.

“An actor would suit me. Learning lines and all that stuff must be really difficult.

“But in terms of the whole different personalities and different stunts, I would love to do that.

“Get me straight to Hollywood mate – the next Denzel.”

When it comes to the battle of the soaps, he declared himself as being “always an EastEnders man”. The former Manchester City player said: “When I used to finish football, come home from training, do whatever you’re gonna do – EastEnders.

“I used to watch it religiously.

“Peggy was my absolute favourite. It was just amazing.

“I just loved it. I just used to love the realness of it.”

Despite his love for British TV, he admitted: “If it was Hollywood or Hollyoaks, I’d be taking Hollywood all day.”

In November, CBS Sports pundits had a bit of fun at Micah Richards’ expense, prohibiting him from mentioning French club Brest before their Champions League match against Barcelona.

As the punditry team, featuring Richards alongside Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry, prepared to go live with host Kate Scott, Richards was told he was being put on mute for consistently finding amusement in the club’s name.

“We do feel that you have consistently proven that you can’t stay professional in these segments where we’re talking about Brest, so production would like to ask if you’re comfortable staying silent,” Scott stated.
