Our canine was run via with a five-foot steel pole – however after a tremendous rescue operation involving a vet college good friend’s automotive, a mate’s angle grinder and a few top-level surgical procedure, he is proper as rain
A dog ran through a five-foot metal pole, but after an amazing rescue operation involving a friend’s angle grinder he managed to survive.
The adorable pooch Murphy was taken out for a quick walk by his owner Richard on a normal Saturday afternoon.
However, 20 minutes later Richard reported that ‘Murphy has hurt himself on a pole’ and help was needed.
Pamela, a close friend and recently retired vet school teacher, and Nicola, another vet school staff member, was contacted by Murphy’s family to help.
When they arrived to see the furry black dog, the situation made his owners ‘knees go weak’ as ‘our poor Murphy had a five-foot metal pole straight through his body. He had been running about in the long grass and run straight into it’.
Pamela was said to have immediately taken charge and called ahead to her colleagues at the vet school and sent a photograph in too.
They were advised to keep Murphy still and calm, which was not easy to do, before the family contacted their friend called Ian who brought his angle grinder to cut the pole in as close as he could.
They were then able to get the dog into the boot of Nicola’s car, which was padded up with horse blankets and towel.

The dog was rushed to vets to undergo surgery to remove the massive pole from her body
As they wheeled Murphy into the vet team waiting for them, they ‘prepared for the worst and did not expect Murphy to survive’.
The surgeon looking after their dog advised that he would initially check the organs for damage, and we would take it from there.
To their amazement, the surgeon told how ‘his organs miraculously were not damaged ,only his liver, which was fixable’.
The family quickly agreed to the next stage of surgery to remove the pole from him.
Just after midnight, the surgery was deemed a success and the pole had been removed, however there was still a risk as his liver was oozing blood.
From then until the following week, Murphy was kept in hospital until he was able to come home.
Now, after going through ‘an emotional rollercoaster’, the family have confirmed six weeks after the incident that ‘you honestly would think nothing had ever happened’.
The family added: ‘It is a miracle Murphy is alive, and we will be forever grateful to the team for saving Our Miracle Murphy!’
This comes after the world’s luckiest Yorkshire terrier survived a brutal shark attack after being bitten on the bottom because the predator simply didn’t ‘like the taste’.

Nine-year-old Yorkshire terrier Maddie (pictured) survived after a brutal shark attack
Maddie, a nine-year-old Yorkshire terrier, was on her owner’s boat when she fell into the water off the northeast coast of Florida.
Bill and Terri Hoge watched in horror as their prized pup disappeared beneath the waves near the dock in St Augustine.
Ms Hoge told local outlet News 4 Jax: ‘It seemed like an eternity, but it was like ten seconds that she was under, and, of course, I’m freaking out. I was like ‘Oh my gosh, I’ll never see her again’.’
When Maddie suddenly reemerged, Mr Hoge dived into the water to save his pooch – only to find she had multiple bite wounds, a broken pelvis and severe bruising.
It is believed that the shark dragged Maddie beneath the waves in its jaws and shook her vigorously, breaking her pelvis in three places. Maddie is still in severe pain but recovering at home.
