UFC superstar Conor McGregor took his work in the octagon to the football pitch, while playing for his pub’s football team on Saturday.

He featured in a Premier Division clash between Black Forge FC and Harding FC in the United Churches Football League (UCFL), which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The 36-year-old donned the No 11 shirt for his side, named after his pub – the Black Forge Inn – and lined up at left wing.

Black Forge FC lie second in one of Irish football’s many amateur league tables, having won four of their seven games so far this season.

McGregor shockingly lashed out at one of his opponents during the game after losing possession. The Irishman took a heavy touch after attempting to control a loose ball and was subsequently dispossessed.

He then followed up by wrapping his arms around his opponent, standing behind him, and eventually wrestling him until he lost balance.

Before the innocent player dropped to the ground, McGregor stuck his leg out at the height of his opponent’s knee, guaranteeing his fall, before the UFC star landed with his body draped over him.

Outside of his antics on the field, McGregor’s interest in the world of football has grown online in the last week, with the former lightweight champion recently revealing that he would like to own a team.

He said that wants to buy two football clubs – after billionaire tycoon Elon Musk was sensationally linked with Liverpool.

McGregor, whose net worth is estimated to be around £160million, announced his interest in snapping up the unnamed clubs on social media but quickly deleted the post.

He claimed that he would be willing to splash out on several League of Ireland sides.

Alongside a photo of him posing with the FAI Trophy won by Drogheda United in November, McGregor wrote: ‘How much is it to buy a League of Ireland team? I might buy two.’

McGregor is the cousin of Drogheda forward Warren Davis. However, the club swiftly distanced themselves from ‘Notorious’, effectively ruling out a purchase.

In a statement posted online, the club said: ‘A social media post has been brought to our attention today regarding the FAI Cup.

‘Those pictured are a close relation to one of our players, who like all the other players had custody of the cup to celebrate with their families at different intervals.

‘Drogheda United do not associate ourselves with the individual who made the social media post in any way, or with any unauthorised brands mentioned.’

McGregor, who is said to be worth £200million, recently appeared in court in Ireland after being accused of ‘raping and battering’ Nikita Hand at a Dublin hotel in 2018. He was ordered to pay over £200,000 in damages after a jury found him liable of assault.

McGregor denies the allegation and could appeal the verdict at Dublin’s High Court.
