Darts icon Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor is back in the game, sort of!

After months of agony and being sidelined from the oche, the 16-time world champ is feeling fight fit after hip surgery. The darts maestro, who had to bow out of Seniors Darts last year due to crippling hip pain, is now throwing arrows again after a lengthy break.

Just days after Luke Littler lifted his first World Championship trophy, thrashing Michael van Gerwen at Ally Pally, Taylor, aged 64, set up a dartboard in his living room to get his groove back. The Stoke legend, who compared his pre-op pain to “walking through broken glass” every time he stood up, didn’t stop at just one surgery.

Taylor also underwent laser-eye surgery and cheekily hinted at a possible return to the sport during an interview with The Times. He teased: “I’m going to give it a go while the weather’s like this and see what happens,” and added: “If I can, I can.”

Whether he makes a shock comeback or not, Taylor’s been keeping busy post-darts with property deals, quality time with the grandkids, and daily trips to the local supermarket, reports the Mirror.

The darts legend previously dashed any lingering hopes of a sensational return to the oche, admitting to The Sun that his body just can’t hack the pace anymore. “It’s a matter of doing more exercise now, getting the blood circulating,” he said.

“Competitive darts now has gone for me. The mind is willing, the body isn’t. I feel 18 inside my head. Let’s concentrate on getting healthy. It’s about dedication.

“If you want to be the best, you have to live that life, get up in the morning, get on the practice board for two to three hours a day. Not for me anymore. I’m nearly 65. I cannot do it now. It’s age really. My body wasn’t willing anymore.”
