Police search icy Aberdeen river for sisters who went lacking six days in the past as officers say they’re ‘significantly involved’ for the ladies’s security
A major search by police for two missing sisters was yesterday concentrated on an ice-covered river.
Eliza and Henrietta Huszti were last seen in the centre of Aberdeen in the early hours of last Tuesday crossing a bridge over the River Dee.
But nothing has been seen of them since.
Police Scotland said they were ‘seriously concerned’ for the safety of the two Hungarian women who are part of a set of triplets.
Yesterday’s operation by search teams focused on the Dee, with no sign of the sisters having left that area after the last sighting.
CCTV footage shows them crossing Victoria Bridge at Market Street shortly after 2am on Tuesday – but nothing after that.
Fears for the women’s safety has grown with the recent plunging temperatures leaving large patches of ice on the Dee.
On Saturday the family of the missing sisters back in Hungary urged people not to spread unfounded rumours about their disappearance.

Their brother, Jozsef, posted a statement on social media that read: ‘Yes, unfortunately the news is true. Therefore I would ask everyone to respect each other and not to spread any false news.
‘What has been published in the press is what we can provide. The Scottish authorities are doing their job.
‘Please everyone, the family is not in a position to give you all separate information at this time. Thank you all for being with us at this difficult time.’
The family last spoke with the sisters on January 4 and nothing seemed to be amiss.
The women have been described as sociable but their loved ones said that they did not tend to go out often, preferring to stay at home to watch movies.
As such, it was said to be out of character for them to be out in the early hours.
Friends of the sisters in Aberdeen have been sharing updates about the police search. One spoke emotionally about the ordeal the family is enduring, writing: ‘I can’t imagine what the family is going through about the sisters’ disappearance.
‘Thinking about them a lot and I hope they are alright as much as they can be in this situation. My thoughts are with them.’
She said that there was ‘no more information available’ other than what has already been published by police.
She added: ‘Police Scotland and the Hungarian Police are doing their best to track the sisters and finding out about their whereabouts.’

The two women moved to Scotland about seven years ago.
It is understood that Henrietta works for Costa Coffee in Aberdeen’s Bon Accord centre while Eliza is a cleaner.
Chief Inspector Darren Bruce who is leading the search, which also includes police divers, dogs and the force’s marine unit, said every effort was being made to find the two women.
He added: ‘We are seriously concerned about them and have significant resources dedicated to the inquiry.
‘The focus of our search remains the River Dee.’
Searches were also carried out over the weekend in Aberdeen’s South Harbour and the city’s Duthie Park. Police said previously that there was nothing to suggest anything suspicious had happened to the women.
