The reason as to why AC Milan will not be able to sign both Marcus Rashford and Kyle Walker on loan has been revealed.
The Italian giants are the frontrunners to sign the Man United and Man City stars during the January window – as both players look for a Manchester exit.
Milan are clear favourites for Walker’s signature at this stage and are poised to make a formal offer for the City captain over the coming hours.
Meanwhile, Milan’s interest in Rashford was revealed earlier this month, after the forward admitted he could seek a new challenge away from Man United.
However, the club will have to make a decision over which England star they want to bring in, due to some Serie A registration rules.
The club have just one spot remaining in their squad for a British player following a change in regulations after Brexit.

However, the recent Italian Super Cup champions will have to pick between the two stars
Restrictions say Italian teams can only bring in two non-EU squad members each year, with one bonus English or Albanian ace permitted.
Milan signed Serbian international Strahinja Pavlovic and Brazil star Emerson Royal in the summer to fill their two non-EU slots.
Walker was left out of City’s squad for their 8-0 FA Cup win over Salford City and did not take part in training Sunday.
Milan consultant Zlatan Ibrahimovic has played a pivotal role in negotiations and the Italian club are hopeful of reaching accord with City ahead of rival competition coming to the fore.
His prolific reputation as one of the world’s best defenders has also continued to capture the interest of Saudi Arabian sides with a host of heavy-spending teams including Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli all showing interest.
Walker could decide to follow his former City team-mate Riyad Mahrez to the oil-rich kingdom and wouldn’t be short of suitors who could offer the veteran a massive payday as he enters the twilight years of his career.
He is understood to be keen on staying in Europe for his family and to save his marriage to Annie Kilner.
Meanwhile, Rashford’s brother and agent Dwaine Maynard was in Milan last week for talks with the newly crowned Italian Super Cup winners.
Further talks are expected with AC Milan over the possibility of signing Rashford.

Borussia Dortmund are Rashford’s other main suitor, while Juventus and Galatasaray also hold an interest.
AC Milan are currently eighth in Serie A having struggled for goals this season.
The Italian giants’ struggles led to the departure of head coach Paulo Fonesca last month, with Sergio Conceicao having since taken charge.
Conceicao led AC Milan to a 3-2 win over city rivals Inter in the Italian Super Cup on Monday with England international Tammy Abraham scoring a stoppage time winner.
