Pep Guardiola’s shut pal reveals ‘motive’ why his ten 12 months marriage broke down
Pep Guardiola and his wife Cristina Serra have reportedly split after 30 years together, 10 of those as husband and wife, with the Manchester City boss’ ‘intense’ managerial style said to be a factor
Insiders close to Pep Guardiola disclosed that his marriage with Cristina Serra hit the rocks, citing his “workaholic” nature as having “taken its toll”.
The Manchester City boss and his better half have reportedly called it quits after three decades together, with a decade of those married.
And a close friend of Guardiola’s has now told the Daily Mail: “I think they have grown apart. She left Manchester about five years ago to return to Barcelona. That has taken its toll.
“He is a total workaholic and not being involved in their family fashion business together may have affected their relationship too.”
Quick to shut down any whispers of scandal, another confidante strongly dismissed any idea of either individual being unfaithful: “They have parted on friendly terms and I really don’t think there is someone else involved,” reports the Mirror.
Guardiola was spotted on Tuesday as the City squad gears up for their match against Brentford in west London, still sporting his wedding ring. Pals of the couple have shared that their current terms are “friendly and cordial”, pointing out that Guardiola and Serra spent Christmas with their kids.
Serra was spotted in Istanbul back in June 2023 to cheer on her Guardiola when City triumphed over Inter Milan snagging the Champions League, capping off a legendary Treble.
Snaps also show the pair enjoying Wimbledon’s thrills this July at the All England Club. And speaking last January, Pep said: “My wife is the best in the world at many things, especially fashion.”
Guardiola will be back in the dugout on Tuesday evening as he looks to try and turn around City’s faltering season with a tricky away clash against Brentford in the Premier League. City were back to their usual self over the weekend as they put eight past Salford City in the FA Cup.
