Anthony Joshua has SEVEN completely different choices to combat subsequent… if Tyson Fury actually has retired, reveals Eddie Hearn

  • Tyson Fury last fought in December when he was beaten by Oleksandr Usyk
  • The former heavyweight world champion was expected to fight Anthony Joshua
  • But, the Gypsy King shocked the boxing world by announcing his retirement

Eddie Hearn has insisted that Anthony Joshua has plenty of options should Tyson Fury stick to this week’s shock retirement announcement.

Hearn revealed on Monday that he had booked out Wembley Stadium ahead of a potential all-British showdown between Joshua and Fury, just hours before the Gypsy King dropped a bombshell update on his boxing future.

Taking to social media, Fury said: ‘hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet.

‘I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it. I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. GET UP!’

Fans are now coming to terms with the fact they may never see a fight between Fury and Joshua, which has been a decade in the making.

Both men were beaten twice by Oleksandr Usyk but there was still huge interest in establishing the British king.

Some are now questioning where Joshua goes from here but promoter Hearn claims he still has seven other potential opponents.

Speaking to The Sun, he named Martin Bakole, Dillian Whyte, Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang, Agit Kabayel, Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker as alternatives.

Joshua suffered a knockout defeat to Dubois at Wembley in his last bout with his fellow Brit retaining the IBF title.

He has defeated three of the other men on Hearn’s list with wins over Parker and Whyte while he also bested Zhang at the 2012 Olympic Games.

A showdown with former WBC champion Wilder may not garner the same interest it would have a few years ago but there is no doubt it remains a big fight.

However, Hearn remains confident that Fury will reverse his decision.

‘I saw that coming, yeah. I saw that coming,’ he said when asked by The Sun about the Gypsy King’s retirement.

‘If you ever want to come back and get the max you’ve got to retire first haven’t you. Someone’s got to bring you out of retirement.

‘So listen, if that’s the last we see of Tyson Fury good luck to him. I doubt it personally. Whatever he chooses to do, much respect ho him.

‘I think he’ll want to fight again, I think he’ll get bored. I think he’ll know that the British public want to see the AJ fight.

‘My personal belief is we’ll see him in the ring again. If not, good luck to the man.’
