A popular supermarket snack is being urgently recalled amid huge concern over its contents. It comes as officials realise the item is missing important information – that could prove deadly for some consumers.

Bolton company David Wood Baking Ltd is recalling the product Farmfoods 50 Cocktail Sausage Rolls because of undeclared milk in the goods. The pack contains cheese and onion rolls which contain milk, but this is not mentioned on the label.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has highlighted the issue in a report on their website, which states that “the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents”.

Milk allergy can cause a life-threatening reaction called anaphylaxis. For those allergic, the substance causes a serious response which can block a person’s breathing as the airways narrow triggered by the allergen.

A “do not eat” warning to consumers has been released by the FSA regarding the “affected batch”.

Those who have purchased the Farmfoods 50 Cocktail Sausage Rolls are being told to not consume them if “you have an allergy, intolerance or sensitivity to milk”.

Instead, the FSA gave this advice: “Check if you’ve bought the affected batch (best before date October 2025). You can do this by taking a picture of this notice or writing down the batch date / best before date for reference at home. Return the product to the store for a full refund (with or without a receipt).”

The FSA also stated that “David Wood Baking Ltd is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.

In their report FSA added: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).

“Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”
