UK police seize Cyberpunk Tesla Cybertruck at Morrisons petrol station over ‘issues’
The Tesla Cybertruck is a beast of a vehicle, but it is also a danger to other road users. The vehicle was seized by police in Greater Manchester and the driver was reported
It might resemble somewhat of a Frankenstein’s monster of a car, but believe it or not, this chunky metal beast was cruising through the streets of Greater Manchester.
With its brash, boxy and beefy design, the custom-designed Tesla Cybertruck cut an imposing figure, starkly distinct from anything else you’d normally spy on UK roads. Yet, it’s not just about looks; there are major safety concerns when picturing this behemoth tangling with pedestrians, cyclists, or drivers in more modest motors during a prang.
When officers from Greater Manchester Police clocked the Cyberpunk-themed, blacked out Tesla in Whitefield, close to Bury, on Wednesday evening (January 17), they jumped into action faster than you can say “Bob’s your uncle,” swiping the motor and giving the driver a telling-off.
Tesla boasts about this goliath’s “ultra-hard stainless-steel exoskeleton” – a tough cookie design aimed to laugh in the face of dents and scratches rather than embracing crumples and impacts like your average run-around. But here’s the kicker: this Cybertruck is no tiddler.
It stretches over 18ft long, looms at nearly 5ft 10ins tall and could tip the scales at up to an earth-shaking 489 stone. And, according to the bigwigs at Tesla, it can blaze from a standstill to 60mph in a blistering 2.6 seconds, reports the Manchester Evening News.
But let’s not beat around the bush: the Cybertruck is a leviathan, scoffing at Blighty’s stringent road safety regulations.
The problematic Tesla the cops nabbed in Whitefield had all its paperwork sorted abroad, whilst owned by someone claiming residency in the UK.
A spokesperson for GMP Bury piped up on Facebook, revealing: “Officers from GMP Transport Unit stopped this Tesla Cybertruck in Whitefield last night (Wednesday).
“The driver was a permanent UK resident but the vehicle was registered and insured abroad which is prohibited in the UK.
“The Tesla Cybertruck is not road legal in the UK and does not hold a certificate of conformity. Whilst this may seem trivial to some, legitimate concerns exist around the safety of other road users or pedestrians if they were involved in a collision with a Cybertruck. The vehicle was subsequently seized under S165 of the Road Traffic Act and the driver reported.”
