‘Tyson Fury is a particular fighter however I again his choice – boxing will miss him’

Tyson Fury is one of the great entertainers. Boxing will miss him now he’s retired.

He’s a two-time world champion who won his belts on the road and was never afraid of a challenge. Tyson battled back outside of the ring as he returned from a mental health crisis to become king of the heavyweight division again.

That in itself is a career-defining achievement but when he was at his best between the ropes then few could match him. The victory over Wladimir Klitschko when so many had doubted him was a masterclass.

The three fights with Deontay Wilder were thrillers that will live long in the memory. That third one was the best heavyweight fight I’ve ever seen live and, without bragging, I’ve seen quite a few of them.

The second one was the highest grossing heavyweight fight in Las Vegas history. Tyson then returned home to break box office records at Wembley Stadium. His fight against Dillian Whyte was the fastest selling event in history at the iconic stadium.

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk
Fury’s retirement comes after his second successive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December

And some people say he’s not loved by the public? If so then why does he sign book deals and see the work fly off the shelves while millions tune in to watch his Netflix documentary? Tyson is loved and he’s a special fighter.

Those two Oleksandr Usyk fights were brilliant but it takes two great fighters to make a great fight. Whether you believe Tyson won or lost both, you can’t deny he made them the fights they were.

It’s his decision to retire and I’ll back him on that. He’s an inspiration and that brings me to the fight we unveiled this week and one of the stars of the south coast.

Ryan Garner has been through plenty of trials and tribulations outside of the ring which have caused his career to stutter and stall. But he remained unbeaten and the Southampton super-featherweight has banged out the BIC in Bournemouth for a European title fight against Salvador Jimenez on March 1.

Tyson has shown people like Ryan that you can struggle but there’s always hope to get back on track and now he will continue to do that for what will be a big year for ‘The Piranha’. I’m also looking forward to promoting in Bournemouth, we’ve always taken the show on the road and it will be a great night down on the south coast.
