‘I’m going to jail bro…I stabbed her 12 instances’ – phrases of babyfaced ringleader

A woman who “gloated” about stabbing a transgender teen in a brutal attack has been defended by her mum.

An 18-year-old was knifed nine times and subjected to a brutal beating accompanied by transphobic abuse on February 10 last year after being deceived into going to a roller disco in Harrow, northwest London. The onslaught was carried out by five youths, now behind bars. Summer Betts-Ramsey, 20, the main attacker, has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years in youth detention.

She has a minimum of four-and-a-half years to be served before she can taste freedom again. Post-attack, Betts-Ramsey shared footage of her gruesome attack with laughing emojis, sending to friends with the caption: “I’m going jail… bro I stabbed her 12 times.”

Later that same evening, when confronted with a message that read, “Stabbing a girl cus she’s trans… its disgusting,” Betts-Ramsey chillingly responded, “IT deserved it.”

Already being watched due to three prior convictions spanning seven offences, including robbery and battery, Betts-Ramsey was under a community order when she carried out the attack. In court, His Honour Judge Philip Katz KC condemned the attack as “abhorrent” driven by a twisted idea of vengeance, and significantly fuelled by the victim’s gender identity, labelling Betts-Ramsey a “dangerous offender,” reports the Mirror.

He said: “Her gloating in the aftermath of the attack was shamelessly hateful and dehumanising.”

Meanwhile, Betts-Ramsey’s mum Linda has been on the defensive, insisting her child did not lead the attack. “She’s not a ringleader. You don’t know the whole truth,” she insisted to the Mail.

A friend was apparently told by the mum: “I love my daughter and can’t bear to see what’s happened to her – she’s been treated worse than a murderer. What has come out in court looks bad but there are two sides to every story. Everyone is looking at it from one point of view. There was a hell of a lot that went on prior to this. There were a lot of threats.”

She reportedly said it’s “hard to understand” but reckoned her daughter’s generation “deal with things in a totally different way”.

Betts-Ramsey’s was said to have had a troubled childhood

Defence barrister Greg Unwin explained to the Old Bailey that Betts-Ramsey felt remorse for her actions, stating: “She admitted she was using transphobic language and it was shameful. She is a person who has been in and out of care with complex needs and a history of abuse from an early age in childhood, particularly the age of nine.”

He further described her troubled background: “Her record shows she has been known to children’s services for some time and went into care after abuse was reported to the police. Since her teenage years she has been in and out of care. From about 2011 there are reports of domestic violence and referrals referring to a young person who was easily influenced.”

Additionally, Bradley Harris, Camron Osei, and Shiloh Hindes, all aged 18, were also involved in the assault and have been sentenced to three years in youth detention. A 17 year old boy received a youth rehabilitation order; all admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent, with Betts-Ramsey also pleading guilty to possession of a knife.
