Brits fume as Sadiq Khan’s UK Wrestlemania declare in tatters as occasion goes elsewhere
Mayor Sadiq Khan claimed last year that he wanted ‘to make London WrestleMania’s first international destination,’ but it now appears to be further away than ever from happening
A claim made by London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan that he’d get Wrestlemania to London appears to be in tatters – leaving Brits angry. In July last year, WrestleMania looked to be UK bound after a surprise meeting between the Mayor of London and WWE chief Triple H took place.
Confirming the meeting, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: “I am delighted to have met with WWE Hall of Famer Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque and WWE President Nick Khan today to discuss how we can work to make London WrestleMania’s first international destination.”
And although many pointed out that Canada had previously held the event, so the UK would be the second – the point about London hosting Mania was still valid.
Event Paul “Triple H” Levesque, said that the excitement to bring the “show of shows” to the city was “palpable,” and it is something since teased by many UK stars.
However, it appears as if that dream is getting further and further away, as it looks as though Wrestlemania’s 42nd edition will be held next year in New Orleans – the same site as the 34th edition.
Although the confirmation of this has not yet been made, PWInsider claims that locals in Louisiana are claiming that the area is the “frontrunner” to host it.
This has gone down badly with British fans, as one said: “About time for Wrestlemania London, stop giving New Orleans a Mania every 10 years of less.”
And a second commented: “I speak for everyone when I say we do NOT want this and we want a London WrestleMania.”
A third raged: “Can we please get one in London already?” Several others also commented that London should be the host city, although others pointed out that “London needs to bid for it” – which is what one would have assumed the meeting between Khan and HHH was all about.
