Arsenal have got their eyes on a new target, and Benjamin Sesko showed them exactly what he’s made of in under 20 minutes.

However, RB Leipzig gaffer Marco Rose has put his foot down, declaring the hotshot striker is going nowhere this month.

Arsenal are ready to splash the cash for a top-notch forward in January and Slovenian sensation Sesko looks to be their prime pick after banging in an impressive 14 goals in 26 matches for Leipzig this season.

Their plans for a spending spree hit the headlines on Wednesday, just as Sesko started against Sporting in their penultimate group match of Europe’s elite competition.

Quick off the mark, the striker darted into the box and latched onto David Raum’s cross, slotting home and notching up his fourth European goal this campaign.

Even with Leipzig’s lacklustre Champions League performance so far, Rose remained firm when grilled by Sky Germany if Sesko was staying put, asserting: “Yes, that’s still the case!”

The Gunners are reportedly ready to splash the cash in January, but only for a top player, and all signs point to their number one pick – Sesko. Reports suggest that Arsenal are considering tempting Leipzig with an early offer.

Mikel Arteta has had strategic meeting with the top brass including Josh Kroenke, scouting ways to strengthen the squad.

However, for all the excitement, Arteta played it real, pointing out the transfer game is tough going: “At the moment we don’t have them, we are actively trying to find the best possible solution but we will have to wait and see what we can do.

“Obviously we have lost two massive players for us in the frontline and we need some support there. Obviously we have more necessity now because of what happened in the last few weeks. That’s obvious.

“I think we have to do what we think is right and what we can do as well. That’s it and it’s clear that we’d like to improve the squad especially with what happened. Can we do it or not? It depends on a lot of factors.”
