Hardy nudists who are feeling Brave-heart will strip off where Scots battled for their independence.

Naturists are snapping up tickets to the Burns in the Buff event which takes place at the site of the Battle of Bannockburn in Stirling. The historic location is where King of Scotland Robert the Bruce defeated English troops led by King Edward II, in 1314 – also the basis for the Mel Gibson flick.

But they will face battles of their own with temperatures predicted to be as low as 6 degrees at the event in May.

The three-day break – being organised by the British Naturism group – includes dinner, bed and breakfast and entertainment.

The holiday advert said: “The King Robert Hotel Bannockburn, Stirling a brilliant location close to motorway junctions and easy access by rail or bus. There is a bus stop outside the hotel. On the Battle of Bannockburn battlefield.

“This year we will be having the World Famous Burns in the Buff and ceilidh, as well as other entertainment. You will also have the opportunity to walk naked in the footsteps of Jamie Frazer of Outlander in his Medieval village.

“The historic city of Stirling is on your doorstep with of course the ancient Stirling Castle and many more interesting sights to see.”

It isn’t the only celebration nudists have had planned. A naturist resort owner has said she celebrates Christmas with a penis-shaped cake, naked Twister and dinner cooked in nothing but a napkin to keep gravy out of awkward places.

Karie Jane, 57, a former theatre producer from Derbyshire, first visited a nudist beach in 2000, inspiring her and her then-husband to embrace the lifestyle and purchase a property in Costa Calma, Fuerteventura, the following year.

Following their divorce in 2013, she relocated permanently to the island, moving into one of their five apartments on the property while running it as a regular holiday destination, and in 2020 she transformed it into the BHH Naturist Resort.

At Christmas, Karie loves hosting guests and last year was her largest festive celebration ever with 10 unclad guests. Before the event, Karie said she planned to have a picnic, sail and go dolphin-spotting, all in the nude, before a New Year’s Eve midnight skinny dip.

Karie said: “I might don a Santa hat at Christmas if I’m lucky, but I won’t be wearing anything else! I don’t wear a Christmas jumper, my skin is more than suitable!
