Luke Littler reacts to dart star’s new walk-on music as at the very least he is ‘not dancing round’

Darts ace Luke Littler has given a cheeky nod to Dimitri Van den Bergh’s choice to switch up his walk-on theme tune. The Nuke shared his opinion after clinching a thrilling 6-4 victory against Van den Bergh at the Dutch Darts Masters – and it seems he’s all for the faster beats.

Chatting with reporters, Littler gave his verdict on Belgian’s move from Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy’ to the banging David Guetta tune ‘Play Hard’. Littler said: “I don’t really know. I think it’s good for us players that he’s not there dancing around, so we get to walk on quicker.”

Not one for a dance himself, when pressed, Littler flashed a cheeky smile and said: “He can take his time, but it’s a good song.”

Pharrell’s hit number had become synonymous with Van den Bergh’s darting persona before he fancied a change, reports the Mirror.

Revealing the history behind his previous toe-tapper, Van den Bergh told Sky Sports: “My manager always thought I was a very optimistic person, always laughing, always looking at the bright side, positive, anything like that.”

Recalling the genesis of ‘Happy’ as his walk-on, he said, “Then he heard this song on the radio and he was like, ‘Dimitri, I have found the song for you! ‘ So, I put it on and thought, you know what, this feels good, it feels nice, it makes me smile.”

But it wasn’t just his playlist that got switched up – young gun Littler outclassed him in an electrifying match this season.

Speaking on his win, Littler reflected: “I felt all-round it was good.”

He added: “Dimitri was with me pretty much all the way so I couldn’t step off. But 2-0 up, just thinking to myself, ‘Just get that 3-0 lead’. But that’s the thing with my game, I can always fall asleep and I know 2-0 up I need to switch on.”

Littler went on to suffer a loss to Stephen Bunting in a narrow 7-6 defeat – even though he’d previously bested both The Bullet on the way to PDC World Championship glory earlier in the year. However, Rob Cross emerged as the champ at the Dutch Masters, bagging his first gong of the year after overcoming Bunting 8-5 in the finale.

With the Premier League looming in February, Littler is sharpening his arrows for another bout with Van Gerwen, marking their third face-off this year. Meanwhile, Van den Bergh is gearing up for a round of 16 dust-up with Gary Anderson at the upcoming PDC World Masters on January 31.
