Arsenal managed to secure a crucial 1-0 victory against Wolves on Saturday, but the match highlighted their need for new recruits in January.

Myles Lewis-Skelly was shown the red card at Molineux, and although Mikel Arteta hinted at a possible appeal if the decision isn’t reversed. If the young player’s suspension is maintained, it could leave the Gunners even more stretched for the upcoming matches.

Injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus have already left Arsenal looking thin on the ground up front. Several names have been thrown into the mix, with Benjamin Sesko expected to join in the summer and others rumoured for January transfers.

However, the attack isn’t the only area where Arteta might bolster his squad, with speculation surrounding midfield target Sverre Nypan intensifying. Here are the latest updates from North London.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United plan to restart contract discussions with Alexander Isak at the end of the season. The Swedish striker has long been associated with a move to Arsenal, who signed his former Real Sociedad team-mate Mikel Merino over the summer.

Magpies manager Eddie Howe has consistently maintained Isak is not for sale, and recent reports seem to back up this stance. It’s suggested that the new contract would be a long-term commitment for the player, who became Newcastle’s record signing when he joined in 2022.

Isak netted a brace on Saturday, helping Newcastle secure a victory over Southampton and finish the day in fifth place. With 17 league goals this season, only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland have found the back of the net more times.

Rumours have been rife that Arsenal are making headway in their talks for a deal with Sverre Nypan. However, the Gunners aren’t the only ones eyeing the Rosenborg starlet, reports the Mirror.

Adding fuel to the speculation, the player’s father Arne posted a picture on Instagram of himself, Sverre, and the midfielder’s agent Rafaela Pimenta at the Etihad Stadium for the Manchester City versus Chelsea match.

As highlighted by football.london, Arne Nypan also holds a position on Rosenborg’s board. Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard is said to be trying to persuade his fellow countryman to make the move to North London.

Norwegian Under-21 international Nypan, who celebrated his 18th birthday in December, finished the previous season with eight goals and seven assists in the Eliteserien.

Vlahovic and Muani

Meanwhile, Arsenal has been urged to reignite their interest in Dusan Vlahovic this month, three years after Juventus beat them to the punch for the Serbian striker. Despite being his club’s leading scorer this season, Vlahovic has been limited to late appearances in the last three league and Champions League matches.

Elsewhere, another striker who could be on the move in the summer, Randal Kolo Muani made his debut against Napoli on Saturday, scoring his first Serie A goal just 43 minutes into the match. The Frenchman, who is on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, gave Thiago Motta’s team the lead.

However, Napoli fought back in the second half with goals from Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Romelu Lukaku. This marked Juventus’ first league defeat of the season, while Napoli maintained their position at the top of the table.
