South American gang needed over £2million London properties heist after Apple TV+ collection
Police believe the culprit behind the string of recent Richmond robberies is a professional South American gang that may have taken interest in the area after an Apple TV+ series
Police believe professional burglars from South America have ransacked multiple local homes in Richmond Green in a £2million looting spree.
Four local homes were targeted after appearing in a comedy starring Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham – residents suspect that the criminal gang behind the attacks were attracted to the location after seeing them in an Apple TV+ series. Victims of the string of burglaries include Rock Star Richard Ashcroft who had around £1million of valuables stolen.
The first of these homes to be raided in the string of robberies on November 2 was an eight-bedroom – according to neighbours the tenants subsequently moved out after the burglary.
On December 29 the star Richard Ashcroft and his wife Kate Radley had their £8million house burgled when they were away. Despite neighbours calling the police the criminals were gone before officers arrived on the scene and the burglars stole an estimated £1million worth of valuables from the property.
One local said: “You don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out that someone from the gang probably watched the programme at some point. They must have realised rich pickings had to be from the area.”
One neighbour said: “The police would have stood a good chance of catching the gang if they turned up when called.
“But now the gang are free to find their next target. We’re all living in fear.”
Police have linked these break-ins and believe a professional team of burglars from South America are behind them – the same gang is thought to be behind other burglaries in the wider Richmond area.
Met Temporary superintendent deputy Dan O’Sullivan said: “We are aware of a number of burglaries in the Richmond area and are taking protective steps to deter offenders and reassure residents.
“Enquiries are ongoing. It is believed that some break-ins may be linked.”
