Three boys, 14, charged after allegedly killing a motorcyclist whereas making an attempt to flee police in a stolen ute

Three 14-year-old boys have been charged after allegedly hitting a motorcycle and killing its rider while fleeing police in a stolen ute. 

Police chased the ute on the Kamilaroi Highway, west of Gunnedah in regional NSW, after it allegedly failed to stop on Tuesday morning.

Officers will allege the ute had earlier been stolen from a house in Moree.

The ute soon collided with a motorcycle on the highway, with the male rider left critically injured, NSW Police said. 

Officers stopped to help the rider while the ute kept going, and despite the efforts of paramedics he died at the scene.

In the nearby town of Carroll, the ute went off the road and the three teens allegedly ran on foot, but were arrested after a search.

The alleged driver of the ute faces 15 charges, including aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death (escaping pursuit), dangerous driving occasioning death, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, and face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence. 

The other two teenagers have been charged with five offences relating to the alleged theft of the ute. 

All three teens were refused bail and are due to appear in a children’s court on Wednesday.
