‘Nasty’ remark to Peter Dutton on a airplane stuns Aussies: ‘That’s simply imply’

Opposition leader Peter Dutton has again been confronted by a man on a plane about looking like Lord Voldemort, the main antagonist in the Harry Potter films.

A video captured the moment the man approached Mr Dutton, and it was shared on social media on Thursday.

At first, Mr Dutton assumed the man was simply greeting him.

‘Mr Dutton, I just wanted to say,’ the man said.

Mr Dutton quickly replied: ‘How you going?’, before the man said: ‘I thought you were great in the Harry Potter films, best performance.’

Many Aussies were not impressed with the man’s attempt at humour.

‘I don’t like Dutton or his policies but I love how in Australia we have a democracy and civility, leave the guy alone,’ one said.

‘Not a fan of Dutton but that’s just mean,’ a second added.

‘That’s nasty,’ a third said.

However, others found it hilarious and enjoyed the joke at the politician’s expense.

‘I love you, whoever you are,’ one said.

Another added: ‘Thank you for your service, brave man.’

It’s not just social media users who have poked fun at Mr Dutton’s appearance.

In 2022, Labor’s education spokesperson Tanya Plibersek also compared him to Lord Voldemort in a radio interview.

‘I think there will be a lot of children who have watched a lot of Harry Potter films who will be very frightened of what they are seeing on TV at night. I am saying he looks a bit like Voldemort,’ she said.

Ms Plibersek later apologised and Mr Dutton labelled the comments ‘unfortunate’ but said they were ‘water off a duck’s back’.
