Body of second girl tragically present in seek for lacking Aberdeen sisters

The body of a second woman has been found in the search for a pair of sisters who went missing in Aberdeen last month, Police Scotland has confirmed.

Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both 32, were last seen on CCTV on Market Street at Victoria Bridge near the River Dee at about 2.12am on Tuesday, January 7.

The body of one woman was recovered from the river near Aberdeen Boat Club just before 8am on Friday (January 31). While authorities have stressed that the woman has not yet been formally identified, authorities have indicated it was Henrietta’s body and the family has been informed.

Now, officers have revealed a second woman’s body was recovered from the river near Victoria Bridge at around 9.05pm on the same day. The woman has also not yet been identified, but the family has again been identified.

Police believe they found Henrietta’s body earlier on Friday, but formal identification has not yet taken place

Superintendent David Howieson said: “Our thoughts remain with the Huszti family and we are keeping them fully updated following these recoveries. We know how much of an impact this has had in Aberdeen and much further afield and I would like to thank everyone who has assisted with our investigation.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “The body of a second woman was recovered from the River Dee in Aberdeen on Friday, 31 January, 2025. Officers found the body in an area of the river near to the Victoria Bridge around 9.05pm and it was subsequently recovered.”

Police have said there are no apparent suspicious circumstances surrounding the women’s disappearances or the discoveries of the bodies, but inquiries are ongoing to establish what happened.

In an update issued following the discovery of the first body, police said divers and other specialist officers had been sent out once again to search the river for signs of Eliza Huszti between Queen Elizabeth Bridge and Victoria Bridge.

Police Scotland deployed divers, cadaver dogs and helicopters shortly after the women – who were two of three triplets – were first reported missing. However, these were called off when nothing was found.

Supt David Howieson said the tidal nature of the river, which feeds into the Aberdeen Harbour, had made the search for the women more challenging.

“Our thoughts are with the Huszti family today. We are keeping them fully updated following this recovery and the further search activity which is ongoing,” he in a previous update.

“Our priority remains finding both of the sisters and the search has focused on the River Dee and will do so in the coming days. Nothing from our extensive inquiries so far suggests either sister left the immediate area after they were last seen on Tuesday, 7 January. There is also nothing to suggest any suspicious circumstances or criminality.”

The pair moved to Aberdeen from Hungary about 10 years ago. Their older brother Jozsef, who lives in Budapest, said the pair were saving to buy a flat in the city.

He told the BBC their the other triplet in their trio, Edit, had spoken to the pair via a video call on New Year’s Eve, and described them as happy and cheerful.
