Pit bull proprietor arrested after canine ripped man’s mouth off as he tried to save lots of his personal pet from being attacked
The owner of a vicious pit bull was arrested after her dog completely ravaged a man’s mouth and ripped off his lips during a brutal attack.
An unsuspecting 43-year-old man and his wife were walking their dog in the 8400 block of Shooter Cove in San Antonio, Texas, when the gory incident occurred on January 28.
Trouble arose when the aggressive pit bull, owned by 39-year-old Veronica Elizabeth Polley, went after the victim’s dog, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).
The man, whose identity has not been released, sprung into action and was able to save his dog before the blood-hungry pit bull diverted its attention to him.
The rampant canine allegedly dragged the victim to the ground before mauling his face, the BCSO said.
He was then rushed to the hospital with ‘serious facial injuries’ to his lips, chin and cheek.
Polley was arrested on Thursday, according to court records. Video from the sheriff’s office showed her being escorted from her home by police in handcuffs.
She did not appear to be distraught by the situation.

Her neighbors told deputies that the grey and white pit involved in Tuesday’s incident has acted violently before. Police have reportedly reviewed video evidence that support these claims.
The BCSO told DailyMail.com that on October 31, 2023, they received a call that a grey and white pit bull from Polley’s home injured one of her neighbor’s small dogs. Police could not say for sure if it was the same pet.
The pit bull was taken into the custody of Bexar County Animal Control. The dog is still in quarantine as of Friday evening, a Bexar County representative told DailyMail.com.
‘We’re awaiting the court process to play out to determine our next steps,’ she explained.
Animal Control found another dog in Polley’s home, but did not take it into custody because ‘it did not appear to be a threat.’
Polley, who is facing charges related to the attack, is still incarcerated as of Friday evening, a representative from the BCSO told DailyMail.com. Her bond is set at $85,000.
She was appointed an attorney during a court hearing on Thursday and will appear back in court in the coming weeks for an indictment hearing.
Residents of Bexar County expressed their strong reactions to Polley’s arrest on social media.

‘Praying for the victim who was attacked trying to protect his own dog. This is terrible,’ one woman said.
Another chimed in: ‘If you have a dog (regardless of breed) that can get aggressive, you have a huge responsibility to the community to keep them contained.’
‘I hope they sue the hell out of her. His medical bills are going to be extensive,’ someone added. ‘The poor man is going to need reconstructive surgeries.’
In November 2024, an elderly Boston woman died after her own pit bull mix dog mauled her and attacked two police officers.
Jeriline Brady McGinnis, 74, was brutally attacked by her pet inside her Roxbury home while her husband sustained injuries trying to save her.
When police responded to the gory scene, they discovered a woman in critical condition and her husband with non-fatal injuries, the Boston Police Department told Boston 25 News.
McGinnis was taken to the hospital but died shortly after.

Shocking footage of the scene showed the malicious dog attacking and biting two responding officers.
One of them shot the dog three times to stop the attack. Animal control took away the dog that was shot along with three other dogs from the multi-family home.
Due to its injuries, the pit bull mix was taken to an animal hospital and was humanely euthanized with the permission of McGinnis’ son.
