Donald Trump warns Iran might be ‘obliterated’ in the event that they attempt to assassinate him

In yet another fiery White House interview, the 47th President is unlikely to have smoothed any creases in the relations between the US and Iran, in yet another example of his Gung-ho approach to foreign policy

President Donald Trump has fired a warning to Iran saying that the Middle Eastern country would be “obliterated” were it to try assassinating him.

The 47th President said he had left very strict instructions for his advisers in the case that he is targeted.

“If they did that, they would be obliterated,” said Trump, while he signed an executive order imposing more pressure on Tehran. “I’ve left instructions—if they do it, they get obliterated. There won’t be anything left.”

The fiery claim followed reports that US officials had foiled an attempt to kill Trump by the Iranians.

According to the charges, Iranian officials allegedly instructed 51-year-old Farhad Shakeri in September to surveil and ultimately assassinate Trump.

The Iranian government dismissed the allegations at the time, with foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei suggesting that they were part of an Israeli-linked conspiracy designed to damage relations between Washington and Tehran.

Federal authorities have been tracking Iranian threats against Trump and other former administration officials for years.

The threats seemingly escalated after President Trump ordered a drone strike that killed Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, a key figure in the country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Trump also claimed that Iranian threats had led to a security clampdown ahead of a campaign rally in Pennsylvania last July, where he was shot in the ear by a lone gunman. However, officials have said that there were no apparent links between Iran and that assassination attempt.

Despite the ongoing threats, Trump recently revoked government security protection for his former secretary of state Mike Pompeo, ex-national security adviser John Bolton, and top aide Brian Hook—all of whom have also been targeted by Iranian plots in the past.
